Why Chowringhee Arts
Chowringhee Arts is an export house on Park Street, in the heart of Kolkata, and we have been in business for 10 years. We work with karigars — skilled artisans — who make home décor, gifting and serveware in buffalo horn, bone inlay and mother-of-pearl for importers, wholesalers and independent stores abroad.
Our horn and bone begin as material that would otherwise go to waste. Every piece is then made by hand.
10 yearsin business
Our pieces are made by skilled karigars, and women are a big part of our team.

The material
Our buffalo horn and bone are by-products of cattle farming — material that would otherwise go to waste. Our karigars give it a second life as bowls, trays, boxes and serveware.
No animal is harmed for our products.

Bone inlay, set by hand
The craft
Horn is cut, shaped and polished by hand until its natural grain shows. Bone inlay is set one small piece at a time. Mother-of-pearl is carved into dishes, birds and flowers.
It is patient work, and you can see the care in the finish.
The result
Natural horn has its own grain and every shell has its own shimmer, so no two pieces are exactly the same.
Your customers get something made by hand, with a story they can tell — not something off a production line.
Made by hand in India — with horn and bone that would otherwise go to waste.
